Character First!

Volunteer Mentoring

Sometimes it requires hearing a message several times from several people in several ways before the information finally "sinks in." That is why many schools enlist trained community volunteers to speak to their students about the character qualities they are studying as a class.

In most cases, volunteers visit each classroom once or twice a month to speak briefly about the character quality. During one-on-one tutoring, volunteers look for opportunities to point out character in what the students are studying.

Volunteers often include parents, grandparents, local residents, and even outstanding high school students who are given release time to mentor younger children.

Character First! training is available for volunteers who desire the exciting challenge of working with youth but have had little experience with teaching children character.
